Around fifty automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to police.
Vehicles, exterior walls and mailboxes were vandalized, sometimes with swastikas, they stated in a release.
Officers report they were contacted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a resident discovered that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued substance.
The fluid had been drawn in the shape of a banned symbol, they stated.
Officers then discovered many other marked cars and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are banned in Germany under laws banning the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement say early analysis suggest the liquid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no indication as to where it came from; investigators are not yet cognizant of any injuries in association with the occurrence," they added.
City officials announced they were working "to resolve the mystery" and have asked to the public for tips.
An important official commented the vandalism made him speechless and required to be addressed promptly.
"This act affects the center of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the right-wing terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on a platform, referring to the killing of nine victims by a assailant targeting residents of migrant background in five years prior.
