Battlefield 6's Casual Playlist Ignites Heated Discussions Regarding Bots, XP Rewards, and Wait Times

Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios launched a fresh playlist called Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this mode resembles the regular Breakthrough setup but includes several key adjustments:

  • Each team has only eight real players, with the remaining made up of AI-controlled opponents.
  • Activities performed by real players award full XP, while bot actions offer reduced XP.
  • Just a pair of maps are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
  • Features like Player tags, accolades, and stat tracking are disabled.

So essentially, this mode delivers on its name: it's a casual take of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume it's a good idea, since it provides more options for players looking for alternative methods to have fun with the title. But, gaming history has shown one thing, it is that you can't please everyone. In other words, many BF6 fans are mad.

Player Responses: From Fury to Support

"Gamers prefer human opponents. Avoid making the mistakes of your rivals," states one reply to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing idea," comments a different user. Meanwhile, in community forums, a player remarks, "It's unclear where we are headed with this title," while someone else details all the issues they believe to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We don't need this bot mode."

However, for every complaint, some gamers explaining how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's very fun to practice, real players keep it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," reads a forum post. "This subreddit fails to see that there are players who actually go outside and don't play this title all the time. Let them find a middle ground," states a different comment. One reply via social media explains that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is great for me," while someone else praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Constructive Criticisms and Community Input

All that said, players have valid points to criticize the new mode. Some users have highlighted that it will make wait times even longer for other modes due to the large amount of options currently available. Similarly, some areas already encounter AI-filled matches in the current modes. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a required amount of human gamers, despite it primarily centers on combat against bots.

Lastly, a major grievances is that a previous feature was promised to provide complete rewards, even against bots, but that got canned when they tried to eliminate XP farming from the system. Thus this new playlist seems like the community meeting them in the middle, according to a Reddit comment. A different user describes this addition as the developers "making a mistake significantly, I experienced great enjoyment in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"

Future Prospects: Will Changes Be Made?

Should Battlefield Studios has proven anything so far with the latest installment, it's that they're paying attention and responding to player input. Tasks that were overly hard got fixed very quickly, as did the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, should analytics shows this recent mode isn't performing to their standards, they will not hesitate to change it again.
