Fall Classic Final Game Attracts Over 50 Million Viewers In the US, Canadian and Japan Markets.

The nail-biting extended clash that saw the Dodgers defeat the Blue Jays by one run averaged a aggregate over 50 million viewers across the United States, Canada, and Japanese markets. MLB stated this marks the highest-rated Fall Classic Game 7 since the 1991 contest between the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Viewership Details

The Saturday epic contest drew 27.33M viewers on Fox channels, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s streaming platforms. According to Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the previous week.

It also stands as the most-watched World Series game after the 2017 edition Game 7 involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which averaged 29.07M. This marks a sixteen percent improvement compared to the last Game 7 featuring the Nationals and Astros, which attracted 23.19 million.

In the weekly rankings, the sixth game placed 4th, the fourth game ranked seventh, Game 5 came in eighth, and the third game finished in thirteenth place.

Global Audience Figures

In Canada, the climactic game averaged 11.6M watchers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This was the highest-rated English program in the country after the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding game began at 9 p.m. local time, it attracted 12M. This came after last Friday’s sixth game – where Fall Classic MVP Yamamoto gave up a single run in six innings – drew 13.1 million viewers, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic matchup on a single network in the country.

Series Averages and Patterns

The full seven-game World Series recorded over 15.7 million audience members on Fox, a two percent increase from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This marks the first time after 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has seen viewership growth for two straight seasons.

Including the opening game telecast on the Univision network, the total US average was 16.1M. The total Fall Classic viewership in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in Canada.

The full playoffs on Fox and its sister channels drew over 8 million viewers, an 8% rise over last year and the network’s strongest playoff ratings after 2017.

Major League Baseball stated that the World Series was broadcast in over 200 countries and territories by forty-four media partners in sixteen different tongues.
