Iranian forces say they have struck a US naval base in Bahrain, as Iran launched operations throughout the Middle East in response for a significant and continuing offensive targeting the nation by the US and Israel.

Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an area close to the command center of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The scope of any damage is uncertain and the United States has not commented.

Airspace Engagements

In other parts of the Middle East, the UAE, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - which all house US military bases - stated they have shot down incoming projectiles in their air space.

In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry announced it had intercepted several missiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest American base in the Middle East.

IRGC Statement

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard declared it was attacking US bases and assets as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the strikes on the Islamic Republic launched by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday morning.

That US-Israeli operation - initiated at around 06:15 GMT - has so far struck sites linked to the the regime, with US President Donald Trump encouraging the Iranian people to rise up against the leadership.

Additional Developments

In the State of Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israeli military said it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.

The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates said in a statement that the nation has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems engaged the projectiles with notable success and shot down a series of missiles," the statement continued.

Officials reported debris landed in a populated district in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some material damage and the death of one civilian.

The US Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, south of Abu Dhabi, along with the UAE Air Force.
