Soccer Expert Chris Sutton Faces Off Against Singer Murs in Top Flight Predictions

Arsenal's ten-match winning streak came to an end by Sunderland prior to the international hiatus, but will the English top division leaders recover against local foes Tottenham this weekend?

"{I believe like Arsenal are light years ahead of Tottenham at the moment but Spurs manager Thomas Frank will have a plan for this match," stated soccer specialist Chris Sutton.

"The Spurs manager will try to neutralize Arsenal, who have not always been at their sparkling finest this season - but Mikel Arteta's side typically still manage to win."

The analyst is making predictions for all 380 Premier League fixtures this season, versus artificial intelligence, readers and a range of special visitors.

In the twelfth round, he faces performer Olly Murs, who is a Manchester United supporter.

Murs' latest album, Knees Up, is available on the weekend.

Football and Family Experiences

Olly is a talented footballer as well as a successful singer and has been a star of several Soccer Aid matches down the years - but he is not planning a professional return as a footballer.

"{I recently played in a benefit match the other night for a friend of mine," he said. "The team was losing 3-1 when I came off in the second half, and they went on to win 4-3, so you can read into that what you want!

"I still love football, but I hurt my knee a few years ago and it even now hasn't fully recovered. I wish I could play more but the uncertainty of the game means it's too risky for me in my career to do it seriously again.

"Additionally I am forty-one now, and we are not all Cristiano Ronaldo, are we!? No, I am very happy not playing football and I am preparing for the time that my child or son decides to play instead."

Murs and his wife his partner have a young family, Madison and their son, and he is prepared to emulate his dad by becoming their manager.

"I will not push football on our kids but I've previously told Amelia that if they do get the passion for it then I will have to go and get my coaching badges - and I will likely be coaching their weekend football side," he said.

"I watched my nephews play a lot, and I really got into it, and I clearly owned a soccer team for a while too.

"My dad did it with us when I was a kid, which is probably where I get it from. He coached our side for several seasons and had a wonderful time with it. That might be the next step for me as well, and I am excited to it!"

Top Division Predictions

Weekend, 22 November

  • Turf Moor, 12:30 GMT

Chelsea might have to be patient for Cole Palmer's return from injury but their attack is already stronger with Pedro and Delap both back fit.

In my opinion this game will be quite close, however. The Clarets are well organised and their only home defeats so far have been against Liverpool and the Gunners.

This smells of a one-all draw to me, but I am actually going to go with the London side to edge it for what would be their third consecutive Premier League win in a row.

The expert's prediction: 1-2

Olly's prediction: The Blues will be too strong. 1-3

AI's outlook: 0-2

The Cherries have been defeated in their previous couple matches - albeit both of them were on the road - but they got thoroughly beaten by Aston Villa last time out which surprised me.

On the other hand, West Ham secured back-to-back victories before the hiatus and, although both of those games were at their stadium, they appear competitive again.

The Hammers' sole away victory this campaign came at Nottingham Forest in August, when their manager Nuno Espirito Santo was still that team's manager.

Therefore, what on earth do I predict here - can the Hammers continuing their streak under their manager, or the home side bouncing back?

I am going to go with Bournemouth, because I think what happened against Villa was a blip.

Sutton's prediction: 2-0

Olly's outlook: The home team are doing well but the visitors have improved under their boss. 2-2

AI's pick: 1-1

  • Amex Stadium, 15:00 GMT

Brentford were seen as one of the favourites for the drop before the season began, but they have impressed a several observers under their manager and are in good form with three in their last four games.

A family member advised me to get Bees forward Thiago in my fantasy soccer squad a few weeks ago and, unfortunately, I ignored the advice.

The forward will likely score again on the weekend but I am still not going to select him or back the away side at Brighton's ground.

They have not had great fortune on the road this term, and Brighton are consistently decent at home. Brentford will try to attack on the counter-attack but I think Fabian Hurzeler's side carry much more of a threat.

The analyst's prediction: 2-1

Olly's view: This could be a match where you expect there is going to be a many scores but it actually turns out to be quite tight. 1-1

AI's prediction: 2-1

  • Craven Cottage, 15:00 GMT

It is a huge fixture for Fulham, who have lost five of their last six games.

Fulham have have lots of talent in their squad but it nonetheless seems like they could be sucked into a relegation battle.

As for the Black Cats, indeed they are the unexpected success of the top flight season so far.

The away side's display in the two-all draw with the Gunners last time out was excellent. We've not seen any other team rough up the North London side like that this season, and Sunderland were fully competitive for them.

The logical choice would be to support the Black Cats here, because they are clearly able of disrupting the hosts up too and, the last time they were in this part of London, they defeated Chelsea at the end of October.

But I am not choose that. Instead, I truly need to continue opposing Sunderland with my predictions. I am taking a lot of credit for their good results because they clearly enjoy to defy my predictions.

Considering the home side's at Craven Cottage record, the only side they have lost to is the league leaders. Marco Silva's team will be absolutely desperate for a good result, so I am going to predict they will secure three much-needed points.

Sutton's forecast: 1-0

Olly's prediction: I know the visitors are performing strongly and also that Fulham are on a poor run... but they have nonetheless been respectable at Craven Cottage this season. 2-0

The algorithm's outlook: 2-0

  • Anfield, 15:00 GMT

This is a hard one to predict. The Reds have suffered seven of their last ten matches in every tournament, but could they be one of the sides who benefit from the {international break|
