Taliban Capabilities

“There seems to be this misconception that the Taliban do not have similar capabilities that western nations possess,” she told lawmakers.

“We left it all behind in Afghanistan; they have it. Once they acquire your phone number, they can trace you down to within metres. This is exactly how specialized teams accomplished.”

When questioned about if militant forces owned advanced decryption, the source stated: “They possess all resources.”

Aftermath of the Information Leak

Initial findings submitted to the committee estimated that approximately fifty family members and associates of people concerned by the incident had been executed.

Security Recommendations

Because she was restricted, the source and the non-governmental organization she was working with informed individuals at risk they were assisting that they had “suspicions that certain devices had been intercepted”.

“We recommended that they relocate where feasible and altered their contact details. These represented the two main details that, should militant forces obtained such data, would result in identification and capture,” the source testified.

Challenged Assessments

The source argued that internal investigation carried out by a retired civil servant had been mistaken to conclude that the possession of the information by the Taliban was “not significantly alter an individual's existing exposure”.

“The thing to remember is that affected people are not standing up to militant forces; they remain concealed. The primary issue involves past work history.”

“There are cases of young kids who have had their arms broken to pressure the family to disclose hiding places,” the whistleblower revealed.
