Triple NBA Most Valuable Player Nikola Jokic suffered a "gut-wrenching" injury to his knee as the Nuggets fell by a score of 147-123 against the Heat.

Jokic injured himself towards the end of the second quarter following an inadvertent collision with teammate Jones.

The other player landed on the foot of the big man, who promptly collapsed to the floor holding his leg.

The 30-year-old, who leads the league this season in boards and dimes, had 21 points and eight dimes in the game prior to sustaining the setback.

The player will have an scan on the following day to evaluate the seriousness of the problem.

"Instantly, he realized something was wrong," said Denver head coach David Adelman.

"This is part of the NBA. Whoever that gets hurt, that's difficult, particularly somebody as important as Jokic. We'll find out more tomorrow."

"We will continue as a team. Obviously, at this moment, I am more worried about him as a person and the letdown of going through an event of that nature."
